Modified BMW G310GS for Cross Continent Adventure

Since last year I have been planning every day for my Motorcycle adventure tour from Germany, Europe to Pakistan and India. Choosing the right motorcycle for such big Adventure is the most important thing and I did spend hours and hours going through different available options within my budget. I set my heart on buying either BMW F850GS or Royal Enfield Himalayan. I wanted to have a brand new Motorcycle to avoid facing any major issues with a used motorcycle. After taking BMW F850GS on a test drive I felt a bit uncomfortable with its weights and upon returning the F850GS, I saw the BMW G310GS and decided to have a test drive with it as well. I immediately loved it due to its lightweight, size and definitely loved the fact that it was half the price of F850GS so I immediately decided to buy it and spend some money to modify it for my tour.

BMW G310GS Modifications

BMW G310GS straight out of the factory is a bit boring and definitely not ready for the big adventure. I identified a few parts which I needed to replace and some which definitely give this boring baby GS a wow factor.

1. Wheels & Tires

The BMW G310GS cast alloy wheels are probably fine but there is a risk of getting damaged especially riding offroad and I didn't want to limit myself to not trying some remote offroad areas. Moreover, the cast alloy wheels look horrible which was probably one of the main reasons to change them. My initial idea was to go with the factory fitted Metzler Tourance but since I was changing the wheels so decided to get 50/50 tires so I can get more mileage and offroad capability. The wheels and tires are

2. Protection

Well, these are the essential add-ons and are very important for any adventure motorcycle tour. The motorcylce protection parts I added are

3. Safety

The BMW factory fitted headlight is not good enough so I had to add some extra lights and centre stand is absolutely necessary. I also added side stand enlargement and chain oiler as I'm not really a person who will regularly look after the chain and oil it manually. Moreover, many adventure riders have faced the problem with their Fuel filters especially riding in Central Asia due to bad fuel quality so I decided to add a fuel filter inside the tank. Another item that I added, which is probably one of my favourite modifications, and looks awesome on the Baby GS are Doubletake adventure mirrors. The motorcycle safe products I added are

4. Ergonomics

It is very important to have a bit of comfort for such a tour and considering that the stock windshield doesn't provide any help against the wind I decided to change it, add a more comfortable footrest and seat cushions. I felt uncomfortable after riding for only a couple of hours on the factory fitted seat. The parts I added are

5. Luggage

I went with the soft luggage system with a side luggage carrier and a Rack.

Summary

Overall, I'm very satisfied with G310GS after the modifications. I might change the suspension as well but at the moment I'm satisfied with the stock suspension. I will do a complete review after 10,000 kms and will let you guys know what I liked and what I didn't like about the bike. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, write down in the comment section or contact me via my Instagram and send me a DM. I will reply as soon as possible.
